BAND
The instrumental music program at Athens Christian School uses The National Association for Music Educators Standards and the Georgia Performance Standards as a guide for structuring classes. The NAfME guidelines provide the framework and means of assessment through which the specific GDE standards are met by each student.
Athens Christian has various instrumental music classes offered as part of the elective program. In addition there are a variety of ancillary ensembles offered after the instructional school day.
Middle School Beginning Band
This group is comprised primarily of 6th graders or middle school students in their first years of band.. This class focuses on the fundamentals of instrumental music, performance, creation, interpretation, and contextualization.
Middle School Concert Band
This group is comprised primarily of 7th and 8th graders. Advanced 6th grade students may be included as well. This class focuses principles of musicianship including technique, performance, creation, interpretation, and contextualization.
High School Band
This class represents the top level performing band at Athens Christian School. High school students are given the opportunity to build on and apply the knowledge and skills attained in previous instrumental music classes. Emphasis is placed on individual musicianship, group performance, and the ability to comprehend, create and communicate the emotional content inherent to each piece of music.
Jazz Combo
Jazz combo Is a year round small ensemble For high school students. The jazz combo meets once a week before school and performs at multiple concerts and competitions throughout the year. The group also provides music and light entertainment at ACS events.
